£1,000,000 LONDON SCHEME

(British Official Wireless.)

RUGBY, July 29.

The progress of the Government's campaign for the abolition of slums continues.

In the London area, following conferences between the County Council and metropolitan boroughs, it has been' decided that the county will acquire and clear the larger condemned areas, forming satisfactory rehousing sites, and the boroughs will deal with smaller areas.

At a meeting tomorrow the London County Council will consider seven schemes for slum clearance, involving an expenditure of nearly £1,000,000 and the rehousing of 6000 people.
