MONASTIC SCHOOLS WELL

The conditions were wintry while the training work was in progress at Riccarton yesterday morning. There was an icy wind, with frequent cold showers. The inside of the trial grass track provided fair going, though heavy after the overnight rain.

Horowhenua beat Tooley Street over six furlongs, taking 53sec for the last half-mile.' Tuirau and Southdown were on terms over half a mile in 53 4-ssec, Hastaway and Hine Ra following easily over the same ground in 54 2-ssec.~

Glowlight and Joyous took lmin 23 l-ssec for six furlongs. Horn's Reef and Trumpet Blast ran half a mile in 51 2-ssec, Tail Light taking 53sec.

Tout le Monde was a neck in front of Silver Jest at the end of six furlongs in lmin 22 3-ssec. McHeath covered a mile and a quarter in 2min 19sec, Riptide joining in for the last mile in lmin 49sec.

Valpeen and Royal Limond were given strong work, Punchestown and Burglar being mates in a similar task. Gay Crest sprinted three furlongs in 40sec. Coalpit ran half a mile up the back in 52 2-ssec, Madam Pompadour doing 52 3-ssec.

Cranford went nearly a mile, the last seven furlongs in lmin 35 l-ssec. Maroha and Rotokino ran half a mile in 52 3-ssec.

Royal Gallant beat Sea Fox over half a mile un the back in 51 2-ssec, Control equalling that time alone. Tunneller sprinted half a mile in 53 3-ssec, Riposte taking 54sec and Rose of Tralee 54 2-ssec.

Fair Weather and Grey Honour went well over half a mile up the back in 50sec. Disguise ran home from the half-mile post in "51 2-ssec. .' Rebel Chief cleared out from Davolo and Colombo over six furlongs, but it was not a fast gallop," the last halfmile taking 55sec. Knockfin ran half a mile up the back in 52 3-ssec, finishing the mile easily in lmin 49 2-ssec.

Linguist, Valarth, and Star Raider were well clear of Rebel Queen over six furlongs in lmin 22 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 53 3-ssec. Froid and Polygraph took 56sec for the last half-mile of six furlongs. Kurapae went at an even pace to register lmin 56 2-ssec for a mile.

Hounslow (R. Drinkwater) and Jolly ; Beggar (H. Turner) went over six hurdles at a sound pace, both jumping well. Nocturnus (H. Brown) and Joppa (G. Murfitt) were companions in a school over four hurdles, giving safe displays.

Monastic (R. Drinkwater) went over five steeplechase fences in good style at a fair pace. Radiant Rose (R. Drinkwater) broke away in front of Prince Val (G. Murfitt) and Giggleswick. (H. Turner) for a school over four hurdles. Radiant Rose soon dropped back behind the other pair, who were together, in front, at the last hurdle, after a good display. Prince Val seems to have overcome the dislike he showed for the obstacles in earlier trials.
