CATERING FOR JUMPERS

Orbell, vice-president of th» South Canterbury Jockey Club, quote-i some interesting figures on the encouragement of jumpers at the club's annual meeting last- Thursday evening As Master^of the South Canterbury Hunt he expressed pleasure at the manner in which his club catered for the jumpers. Looking through the records he found that on the West Coast there were fourteen days' racing last seasdn and. no jumping events. On the Nelson-Marlborough circuit ther" were six days' racing and no jumping events. Canterbury had 28 days of racing and provided' 32 jumping races; and Otago with .20 days' racing had 13 jumping events. 'In Southland there 'were .18 days' racing and 13 jumping races. Canterbury had the biggest perjcentage of all, and out of the district's 32 jumping races 10 were held on the Washdyke course. , "I think it is a matter in which we should feel proud," said Mr. Orbell. "We are certainly doing what we can to cater for the right type of horse."
