MAN GASSED, WIFE INJURED

TIMARU, July 30.

When a lad of 12 returned home during the school lunch hour today, he. found.his father, William Bell, 50 years' of age, lying unconscious on the scullery floor and the room filled with gas. The police were summoned and Bell was still unconscious when they arrived. Neighbours in the meantime found the gas escaping, disconnected the ring, and turned the supply off.

Later the police found Mrs. Bell, aged 48, lying on her bed with her head in a pool of blood. Both were taken to hospital, by which time Bell had partly recovered, but the wife is in a serious condition. Bell was not fit to make a statement tonight. .
