BON VOYAGE
N.Z. RUGBY TEAM
DEPARTURE FOR ENGLAND
MNAL FAEEWELLS
Their many farewell functions over, the members1 of the New Zealand Rugby football team for the tour: of the Home countries took final leave of New s Zealand this morning when they left by the Rangitiki shortly after 7 o'clock. In spite of the bleak weather there was ap. enthusiastic gathering of relatives, friends, and other well-wish-ers (including some Rugby Union officials) at the wharf for the final sendoff.
Throughout yesterday the manager and the playjig members had had a strenuous time and, though there was the prospect of much solid work. in giving attention to fitness on the long voyage, they were happy to be settled in their quarters on the vessel. Adequate provision had been made for them, to carry but a training schedule during the voyage, and in this connection an interesting part of the equipment to be seen on board was a machine which the manager is employing as a means of. getting his forwards welt up in the art of scrummaging. The training course, it is understood, will be taken steadily' and in such a way as to have the players worked up to the right state of fitness by the time they reach England, .if The team is due in London, about September 2, and will spend two days there before proceeding to headquarters at Newton Abbott. . • :
