The Waimate Hunt Club's annual races are being held in fine, sunny weather. The track is in good winter condition. There is a fair attendance. Results:—
Studholme Hack Hurdles, £50; 1 mile and 5 furlongs.—l Polydora, 10.1, 1; 2 Adult, 10.6, 2; 3 Mount Boa, 10.4, 3. Scr.: Arauline, Trisox. Two lengths. Time, 3min 5 2-ssec.
Novice Stakes, £35; 6 furlongs — 1 Violenta, 1; 3 Jack Ahoy, 2; 2 First View, 3. Scr.: Coalpit. Pompeii broke a fetlock and was destroyed. Eight lengths. Time, lmin 17 l-ssec.
Winter Trot, £40; 3.43 class; H miles. —1 Ivan deOro, scr, 1; 4 Slipalong, 36, 2; 5 Locust, scr, 3. All started. Six lengths. Time, 3min 34 3-ssec. • Hunt Club Cup Steeples, £40; 2J miles.—2' Bandy Boa, 9.13, 1; 5 Cappy Ricks, 9.12, 2; 6 Dundas Girl, 9.12, 3. Scr.: Tooter, Red Sceptre. Fifteen lengths. Time, 4min 56 l-ssec. POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, This Day. The^ Poverty Bay Turf Club's Winter Meeting opened in fine weather, and with a fair attendance. Results:— Park Hurdles, £60; 1J miles—3 Victor Colima, 9.5, 1; 6 Isms, 9.0, 2; 1 Cromwell, 9.5, 3. Scr.: Million, Royal Toast. Length and three-quarters. Time, 2min 53sec. Hack Plat Handicap, £50; 6 furlongs. —7,Gasman, 8.9, 1; 3 Mata Hari, 9.6, 2; 2 Kilberis, 8.5, 3. Scr.: Royal Mimic, Kanapa. Length and a half.; Time, lmin 16 l-ssec. Maiden Race, £40; 5 furlongs.—l De Friend, 8.0, 1; 1 Small Boy, 8.0, 2; 9 Ace Willonyx, 8.0, 3. Scr.: Royal Welcome. Length and a quarter. De Friend and Small Boy were bracketed. Time, lmin 4sec. JOCKEY SUSPENDED. ■After the first race the judicial committee held an inquiry into the riding of Tahoma by W. Home. After hearing the evidence of the owner, trainer, and rider the committee decided that the horse had not been ridden on its merits, and Home was suspended for three months. MANAWATU REHANDICAPS (By Telegraph—Jvess Association.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. Rehandicaps for the Manawatu Racing Club's Meeting have been declared as follows: — Ladies' Bracelet.—Lady Arikitoa 11.1. Hunt Jubilee Cup.—Miss Pango 10.12. Flaxbourne Hurdle Handicap.— Brigadore 11.1. FORM AT AWAPTJNI THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. Although heavy rain fell yesterday a strong, wind is rapidly drying up the tracks at Awapuni, and fair conditions prevailed this morning- when candidates for the Manawatu Meeting galloped. Note Issue ran three furlongs in 39 2-ssec. Although the filly carried on she was eased up, the next furlong taking 15 4-ssec. Evasion jumped away at the eight-and-a-half-furlong post, and was picked up by Full Throttle at the sevenfurlong peg. The pair then ran the last seven furlongs in lmin 40sec. Evasion ran the mile in lmin 551-ssec, the first three furlongs taking 42 2-ssec. They were still together at the close.
Round Score and Hunting Lodge, both with substantial weights and not off the bit, ran five furlongs in lmin llsec.
Santoft was a length clear of Te Rangitumau at the close of seven-fur-longs covered in lmin 41 4-ssec. The first two took 29 2-ssec, and the halfmile 58sec.
Hilton Gorse, with a substantial advantage in weights,'was three lengths in front of Pylon at the end of half a mile run in 55 4-ssec, after taking 14 l-ssec for the initial furlong.
Gold Cure, with a lightweight up, ran six furlongs in lmin 22 l-ssec, after running the first three furlongs in 39 4-ssec.
Happy Hunting, with a lightweight in the saddle, ran five furlongs in lmin 8 l-ssec, after covering the first two in 27sec.
Riotous and Cardhu were associated over a couple of rounds of the country. Cardhu gave a very pleasing display; Riotous was a little careless at the fences.
Tudor and Esteem stayed together throughout a round .of the hurdle fences. Tudor fenced beautifully, and had the advantage in this respect.
Salt Spray, who has apparently made a good recovery from the injury received at Wellington, went a couple of rounds on the sand at a strong pace.
