! Beginning on Saturday, August 3, the new Operatic Society will present a season of "The Geisha," at the Grand Opera House. From start to finish there is scarcely a dull moment in. "The Geisha"; the settings and lighting effects lend themselves to stagecraft, the tuneful music and bright witty libretto are a delight, and the charming ballets depict movement and vivacity. The cast is well selected and includes Doris Gilmour, Gretta Stark, Hilder Webster, Evelyn Wright, Valeric Ashenden, Janette McTavish, Gwyneth Jones, Barbara Basham, Greta Chapman, Aileen Bacon, Doris Bryan-Simpson, Cynthia Burge, Dorothea Stevens, Ailsa Chapman, Nancy Cook, Edna . Mears, Trevor Thomas, Arthur Haley, Jim Cooke, Ron Pritchard, Alan Fuller, George Power, Dudley Alexander, and Alex Barr. Described as "Taranaki's Queen of Song" Doris Gilmour, of Hawera, is to take the part of the chief Geisha. This young lady has won a lengthy list of championships and awards for both, singing and elocution and is regarded in Wellington operatic circles as quite a "find." Preferential booking opens tomorrow and the box plan for the first four nights opens at the D.I.C. next Saturday.
