HIGHWAY ACCIDENT
TRUCK DRIVER FINED (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) - . HAMILTON, July-22. In the Magistrate's Court today, John; Henry Mahood was fined £5 on each'of two charges of failing to report an accident and bailing to stop. The defendant pleaded guilty. According to thespolice, the defendant was • driving a truck between Cambridge and Hamilton when he knocked down Ernest Tapp, who was walking on the road. Tapp was severely injured, and the defendant drove on. His conduct was described as extremely callous. ; Counsel for the defence said that Mahood had three young men as companions, of whom were under the influence of liquor. Mahood himself was sober, but feared that if he stopped he 1 might have ..been arrested for intoxication in charge of a vehicle. A further charge of negligent driving causing bodily harm to Ernest Tapp was preferred against Mahood, and, the hearing is.proceeding.
