NUMEROUS CHARGES

PROBATION GRANTED

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 22. Four young men who had pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to a series of charges of breaking and entering and theft were brought before Mr. Justice Fair for sentence in the Supreme Court today. The charges involved breaking and entering two warehouses in the city and theft, attempting to' break and enter another warehouse, attempting to break and enter a shop, and charges of theft of postal packets from five pillar boxes. In all there were seventeen charges.

His Honour said he had some hesitation as to whether he should deal leniently with the type of offences which the young men had admitted. Theft of or interference with postal matter was very serious. It might throw suspicion upon postal officers and- also cause great inconvenience to the business community.

Each of the accused was admitted to probation for three years.
