D.I.C. CONCERT PARTY

In pursuance of their endeavour to provide the inmates of Wellington hospitals and institutions with some little happiness, the D.I.C. concert party visited the Ohiro Home recently and spent a pleasant two hours with the old folks. The party presented a variety programme which was enthusiastically acclaimed by the inmates. Among the items presented were vocal solos by Misses V. Berry, D. Cree, and R. Doherty, Messrs. J. Osborne and C. Fancourt. Miss Joyce Griffiths, a solo pianist of outstanding ability, was a decided acquisition to the programme, while selections on the harp by Miss Lalitte Lees fully merited the applause they received. Further musical gems were provided by an excellent instrumental trio comprising Miss L. Lees (harp), Mr. Frank Pennington (violin), and Mr. Stanley Pennington ('cello). Miss Leila Garnham contributed elocutionary items, and a vocal duet by Misses Rose Doherty and Mavis King was well received. Mr. Arthur Pennington gave two humorous items, which established him as a great favourite with the old people, and a bright number by Miss K. Hakaraia (Maori melodies and dances in costume) and an opening chorus by the party were also presented. Supper was served by the ladies of the party. At the close of the concert the matron of the home (Mrs. W. Hicks) expressed, on behalf of the inmates, appreciative thanks for the visit, and her hope that a return visit would soon be arranged was endorsed in no uncertain manner by the old people.
