COLD MEDALS AND PRIZES
With reference to the gold medals and prizes for 1934 which were awarded at the recent examinations of Trinity College of Music, and presented by the examiner, Mr. Adolph Mann, the full list showing the winners (and also those candidates who obtained higher marks but did not qualify owing to the age ' regulations) is as follows: — Gold Medallists. ; Diploma: Maxzeen Stevens (Miss M. Dillon), 80. Higher local: Dorothy Downing (Mrs. E. Mackay). 91, honours. Senior: Yolande Bitossi (Mrs. W. G. McCartie), 83, honours. Intermediate: Ngaere Highet (Mrs. E. Mackay), 98, honours. Junior: Myra Nichol (Miss A. Duff), 94, honours. In the senior grade the following candidates were not eligible:—Reginald C. Madden (Mr. H. G. Cook), 90, honours; Ruth Allan (Miss D. Prouse), 84, honours; Irene Wilson (Miss M. Crawford), 84, honours; and Lorna Gandy (Miss A. G. Wright), 83, honours. In the intermediate grade, Paul Magill (Mrs. E. Mackay) obtained 98 marks, but the medal went to the younger; candidate, Ngaere Highet. ■ Prizes. Preparatory: Junior Farrell (Miss Fitzgerald), 92, honours. First steps: Mary Josephine Gore (Brougham Street Convent), 85, honours. In the first steps grade Alexander Cottrell (Lower Hutt Convent), 88, honours; Margaret Tustin (St. Vincent de Paul Convent), 86, honours;, and Betty Noble (Miss M. Gaynor), 85, honours, were not eligible owing to the age regulations. New Grades. Three new grades were introduced by the college last year, advanced senior, advanced preparatory, and initial, but owing to insufficient entries the local committee deemed, it inadvisable to award prizes. The following candidates obtained highest marks in the new grades:—Advanced senior: Ailsa Maplesden (Miss V. Boesley), 87, honours. Advanced preparatory: Brian Cook (Miss E. Clark), 96, honours. Initial: Margaret Williams (Convent, Lower Hutt), 88, honours.
