A DEFINITE START

PAPER MILLS PROJECT,

WHAKATANE, This Day.

: A definite start was made yesterday with the work of establishing the paper mills at Whakatane, 2500 sleepers,: the first shipment of 18,000 required, being landed at the mill site .wharf. The contractors for the construction of the company's railway to link the bush with the mill are commencing ■ work today. The line and the preparation of the mill site involve an expenditure of £30,000. It is expected that tenders for the erection of the mill and equipment will be let early next year. The whole project is estimated to cost £500,000, and to have an output of 30,000 tons per annum. The directors anticipate that the mill will be completed and working by the end of 1936.
