ANOTHER DEPRESSION
GENERAL RAIN
Special forecast for Wellington:—
Strong: north-westerly winds reaching gale force at times. Weather cloudy and boisterous with vain at times, and with the probability of some heavy falls.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for strong northerly winds which will reach gale force in many places. Winds later will back to the west and in places to the south-west. The weather will be unsettled, cloudy, and squally, with fairly general ram. There will be heavy falls in places, especially in western districts and in the Auckland district. Temperatures will, at first, become colder tomorrow. On Saturday and Sunday an anticyclone of slight intensity moved slowly past the North Island while a depression approached New Zealand from the Tasman Sea. The weather during the weekend was for the most part fair to fine, but on Saturday showers fell in the far south. • During Saturday night and Sunday north-westerly winds freshened and there was scattered rain in western districts from Taranaki southwards. Since- last night the depression has moved on to New Zealand and his intensified. As a consequence conditions have become more generally unsettled, although it was still fine this morning on the East Coast of the South Island. Heavy rain fell last night in the western districts of the South Island, some of the totals being Arthur's Pass 260 points, Greymouth 144 points, and Westport 130 points. Nelson also had heavy rain, 140 points being recorded. Auckland's weather on Saturday and Sunday was fine and mild with light winds. Light rain, however, fell last night, and the weather this morning was overcast and showery with a | strong wind from the north-east. Wellington had fair, mild, and pleasant weather on Saturday with a moderate north-westerly breeze. Sunday broke fine, but it - soon clouded over and the weather for most of the day was cloudy and threatening, occasional light rain accompanying a fresh north-westerly wind. Rain set in at 3.45 a.m. today and the north-westerly wind has become strong and squally. Up to 9 a.m. today 28 points of rain had been recorded at Kelburn, and 24 in Lower Hutt.
Fine and mild weather has continued to prevail in Christchurch. There was a light north-easterly wind on Saturday and Sunday, but the wind was strong this morning from the same quarter.
Duncdin's weather on Saturday was fine with a south-westerly breeze, but Sunday was'dull with, a light northerly wind. At 9 a.m. today the weather was fine and clear again, with, a.south-
