PAKEHA UNDOCKED

CRACKED PLATE REPAIRED

The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer Pakeha was undocked after completion of repairs shortly after noon today, and later berthed at the King's Wharf, where she is now continuing her loading for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, and Glasgow. She is still to leave tomorrow afternoon to complete loading at Ly Helton, Bluff, New Plymouth, and Auckland. The examination while- the vessel was in the dock revealed that one of her bottom plates had opened up. A patch was put over the crack, which was situated under No. 2 ballast tank in the double bottom.

According to Captain W. H. Hartman, marine superintendent of the company, it cannot be stated definitely where the mishap took place. The only clue is that when examined the damage koked as if it had been made when the vessel was under way, rather than lying alongside a whuff.
