GOVERNMENT DONATION
,It was announced toddy by the Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. Sir Alfred Ransom) that the Government had "decided to forward the sum of £1000 to the funds of the International Relief Union, in response to the union's appeal for assistance towards the sufferers from the Baluchistan earthquake.
The International Relief Union, of which New Zealand is a member, is an international body which has been set up with the object of organising relief in such cases as this. Apart from a small "initial" fund, contributed by the States members of the union (of which New Zealand's share amounted to a little over £400) the union depends for moneys required to assist in such a catastrophe as this upon (1) voluntary grants made by Governments, (2) private contributions, and (3) donations and bequests.
