BRITISH PLANS
NEED FOE EXPANSION
BUILDING- EXPECTATIONS
LONDON, July 9. Mr. Hector Bywater, in the "Daily Telegraph," says:—
"Owing to the big foreign building programmes and the lapsing of the Washington Treaty in 1936, Britain is actively studying naval expansion. It is expected that her building programme will include ten cruisers, bringing the total to 60, which, however, is ten fewer than Lord Jellicoe, Lord Bealty, and Sir Roger Keyes declare to be the minimum for safety.
"A large expansion of the fleet air arm is also expected, enabling battleships and cruisers to be equipped with two machines .and aircraft-carrier outfits to be brought up'to full strength.
"Development in anti-submarine forces is expected unless an agreement reduces foreign submarines and light vessels.
"Britain will not enter, into naval competition with America. Both Britain and America recognise that mutual strength in the Pacific is essential to peace." ___^_^_____
