HOUSING IN WELLINGTON
(To the Editor.) , Sir,—-In a recent issue of the "Evening Post" Mr. W. Appleton, in an address to the "Toe H," made the statement that Wellington house-rents were the highest in New. Zealand. That I consider is not correct. I had occasion to visit Christchurch and Dunedin in March. While in these cities I. made inquiries into the rents charged, I visited several land and estate agents who should be in a positio., to know and. I found that the rents charged within' the city areas were every bit as high as Wellington, in some cases slightly higher. What I also found out was that shop rents were much cheaper than in Wellington allowing shopkeepers to charge less for commodities, thereby cheapening the cost of living.—l am, etc., SHOPKEEPER.
