EXPORT OF POTATOES

EMBARGO MAY BE LIFTED

(By Telegraph—Prefs Association.) WAIMATE, This Day. The Acting Minister of Customs (the Hon. A. Hamilton) told a delegation of Waimate potato growers that he was hopeful that the embargo would be lifted shortly, although nothing definite could be done until Mr. Forbes and Mr. Coates returned in August, when a conference would be held.

The fact that Australian oranges had been admitted did not signify, as the oranges came from South Australia, whereas New Zealand wished to export potatoes to the other States, said Mr. Hamilton. Restrictions had already been placed on six Australian articles, showing that the Government had the matter firmly in hand.
