OPENING MATCH

WARWICK TEAM CHOSEN

BRISBANE, July 8,

The Warwick team to meet the Maoris in their first match on Wednesday will be:---

Full-back.—L. Woodcock. Three-quarters.—G. Evans, R. Creed, N. Ward, J. Mole. Five-eighth.—A. McMurtrie., Half-back.—M. Creed. • : /.' "Forwards.—J. Furtell, S. Keates, V. Carroll, E. Stemm, H. Evans, M. Kelly, J. Diery, K.Suter. . '

Ward, Diery, and Suter have played for Queensland this season, but the rest are of the honest, plugging type whose defence is far superior to their attack.. ~

. It' is likely that the Maoris will receive a wet welcome in Queensland, where it is not uncommon to have weeks, of brilliant sunshine at this time of the year. However, general rain is falling today. It brings great relief to the drought-stricken areas. The boggy black soil of the roads may prevent many outside residents from getting to .Warwick for the match, and Slade Park, where the game will be played, will be very heavy unless the rain stops tonight. ■ * ■ ■
