PROGRESS OF WHENUAKURA

(Special from "Limited.")

HAWERA, July 8. Whenuakura is a regular attendant at the tracks and puts plenty of energy into his pace Work. He looks as if he would run a merry half-mile already.

Aga Khan, who - has been spelling for some time,. has benefited greatly by the let-up and is now looking in fine shape. At present he is being given road exercise. Diagano has had to be eased up owing to injuring himself while running in his exercise paddock.

J. Fryer has added another to his already big team in a five-year-old gelding by Callaghan from a Foremost mare, a half-sister to Glenfariff, a useful hurdler a few seasons back. The gelding looks a likely cut of a hurdler. Oriel, who arrived back from Australia in wretched condition, is beginning to pick up again but it will be some time before he will be ready to race. '

Haunui, who broke a blood vessel at Levin, has been taken out of training and is not likely,'to .do any more racing. Carfex is looking as fresh as ever after his race at Levin but will not be required to run again until the Combined Hunt fixture at New Plymouth. A mare who is looking ■ particularly well is St. Clara, and it will not surprise to see her performing better than ever during the coming season. , The Gay Shield—Persis colt who sustained injuries from a fall on the road, although making recovery, is still suffering from the effects. The accident may delay his. departure to the other side indefinitely.
