The standard of shooting in this grado has shown a decided decline from that of the flrst ound, when an average of 66.12 was attained. The average In the second round was 66.00 while It has now fallen to 6d.43. Not 50 per cent, of the riflemen in the grade are obtaining scores of 67 or over. In this round only 45 of the 98 riflemen obtained such scores, while there were 19 whose scores were under 65 It la these latter who are keeping the average of the grade down and an Improvement there would be readily noticed. ' They also have figured in the best combined score on all three occasions and with South in this round made the score of 948, which again is five points lower than this season's best performance. Tho best ladles' team, score for the round was a 468 by Petono Ladles, and the Individual ladles' average was 65.00. A reminder Is given of the Walrarapa championships to take place at Greytown on Saturday, July 20. There Is still accommodation for threo or four more In tho bus leaving town that morning. Those desirous of obtaining a seat are requested to mako application early. ASSOCIATION TEAMS. The general response of members selected to shoot In teams this season has been very gratifying to the selectors. In tho Empire Cities match only one rifleman was ntit accounted for; In the B.S.A. match and tho Ladles' Postal match thore were three. It would be appreciated by those in charge it members selected and unable to attend would advise the secretary as early as possible. Especially would this have been so in the ladles' postal match v. Christchurch, shot on Saturday, as tho match could havo been comploted by 8.30 p.m. had such advice been received. Special thanks aro duo to all emergencies who, on the chance of being requlrod to shoot, have shown their Intorest In tho sport by being present at the matches. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. Entries for tho Now Zealand championships close with the secretary (Mr. Wannell) on Saturday. Tho programme has been circulated among the clubs. It will be observed that, tho A grado matches are based on an entry of 80 riflemen at 5s for each match and 7s 6d for the agcregate. The B grade Is bused on an entry of 100 riflemen at 2s Gel for each match and 5s for the aggregate. A B grade rifleman Is one who has not won a prize in the association championship aggregate during the period 1929 to 1939 or an nmount ot £1 or over In the B grade aggregates of 1933 and 1934.

The prizes offerer! In the A grade, np.irt from trophies, are 22 In each match, totalling SlB, and varying from £3 down, la the

aggregate the flrst prize Is £5, and there are twenty-four othors, making a total of £25. The B grade matches sharo £1 10s as first prize and 11 other prizes. The aggregate shows £3 10s and 27 othors totalling £22 10s, There is also the usual ladies' championship, entry 2s, with £5 10s in prizes. The champion teams match Is open to teams of four, entry 10s, and the ladles' teams match lias an entry of ss. Ono important alteration In tho rules is that graduated gauges will be used to decide ties In lieu of the count-back system, and a shootoff will bo required only where a decision cannot bo mado by the use of the gauges. "EVENING POST" CLUB. Mrs. Nlckloss (69) and C. Duncan'(66) are the holders of the buttons this week. HARBOUR BOARD CLUB. The Harbour Board Club has a number of new members this year, some of them very promising shots. One of them, Bennett, has his own ride, and another, Reed, a very young member, will have his soon. Reed secured first place In the first trophy. I. Tringham, who Is a good 97 or 98 man, shot well in the Wellington championship meeting, securing fifth place in the B grade championship. R. H. Nicholl is still with the club and shooting very well. W. V. Philpott is shooting very consistently and has a few possibles on the wall. Mcßain is putting in a lot of practice, and will be shortly In tho New Zealand championships. SOUTH CLUB. The South Club held the usual competition shoot last Tuesday evening. The best scores were possibles (70) by R. T. Boddy, R. Conereve and F. W. Costello, and 69's by C. Tsyberg T. McNab, H. Lane, and W. T. Creswell. The shoot off in the tie between R. Congreve and A. MacDowall for the April-May-June competition for the Morris Cup resulted in a win for R. Congrevo. The shoot oil for the June trophies resulted as follows:-A grade: H Lane has been eliminated, leaving R. l. Boddy and F. W. Costello to shoot off for Places. B grade: C Nyberg 1, W. T .Creswell 2 X Klndell 3. The following shoot off for the three remaining trophies in this section: B. McWhinney, F. Evans, A. Withers, W. It has been decided to shoot for the Wltcombe and Caldwell Cup on the first and last Tuesdays in July, August, and September, a handicap competition, all shoots to count, the member with the highest aggregate to re am the cup. For the purpose of this competition the club standard has been raised to 70 points The British Dominions' teams' match been fired. The provisional score of 589 is Three points higher than that obtained by the club last year, when fourth place vvas secured Possibles (100) in this -compet tion were shot by R. Congreve and R. T. Bocklj. The shoot this evening will be Ue July competition for the Congreve Jug. A postal match with the Aokautere Club will be flrea during the month. WELLINGTON W.M. CLUB.
