DICKENS FELLOWSHIP

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

The annual meeting of the Dickens Fellowship, took", place , recently and1 was attended. by a large number of members and visitors. The chair was occupied by the president, Captain M. Galloway. .

A full report was submitted;by the secretary, Mrs.;N.,Cruttenden, in connection with the activities of the year ended June, last, together- with- the balance-sheet. It was gratifying to learn that -there was; a small . credit balance in hand. '•■.-..• ■ -

The officers for 1935^36, were elected as follows:—President,, Captain M. S. Galloway; secretary, }Mrs. N., Cruttenden; committee, Mr. C, Smythe, Mr. A. Coomber, Mrs. L. Johnston,.Mrs. Price, Miss Barrow, 7 Mr?. . Gow; librarian, Miss M.. Robinson; publicity secretary, Miss D. Rigg; .vice-presidents, Mr. Johannes 'Andersen and Mrs. M. H, Chatfield. '.'. 7' .'. ' ... .

During the evening a welcome was extended to Miss M. Robinson, vicepresident of the Auckland branch, and the hope was expressed-that she would co-operate with the local branch. Miss Robinson suitably replied.

Following the business part of the evening, a. much-enjoyed programme was given, and thanks were expressed by the audience to air who • contributed. ■ Piano solos were rendered by Mrs. W. H. French, and songs by Mr. W. Bentley. An interesting reading from "David Copperfleld" by 'Miss Mavis Martin was much enjoyed, and Miss Doris Rigg' gained warm applause at the conclusion of a dramatic character reading from "A Tale of Two Cities." Mesdames Galloway and Price were the accompanists.

The singing of the "Brotherhood" chorus and National Anthem concluded a happy evening.
