FIRST A DIVISION
HUTT AGAIN DEFEATED
Diamond experienced no difficulty'in defeating Hutt, They were a better team in almost every-respect, although they were playing not quite as wen as usual. The game was not very interesting.
The teams were as follows:— Diamond: Ewing, Hopper Rabbitt, Nicol, Gcddes, O'Leary, Dyer, Gilchnst, Upchurch, Tucker, O'Connell. _ Lower Hutt: Moyes, Friend, Blair, Lyon, McSloy, R. McLellan, Gilchnst, Carlson, Stobbs, Cross, A. McLellan. Diamond attacked immediately the game began, and pressed hard for the first fifteen minutes, when Upchurch put in a good shot from just outside the goal-mouth. Diamond 1. Hutt 0. Hutt were playing a little bettei than last week, but seemed to laclc confidence. Moyes was playing a slightly improved game, but the Diamond goalie, Ewing, gave a first-class display. He never missed anything that looked dangerous, and it was pure bad luck that he did not stop at least one of Hutt's goals. The diamond team, too, were kicking cleverly, especially Blair, who played a solid, dependable game throughout. They were far more resourceful than Hutt in G Play now remained in Hutt territory for some time, and although Hutt made several attempts to break through the opposition, the Diamond defence was too sound for them to make any headway. Upchurch, receiving from Tucker, sent in a hard shot that escaped Moyes. Diamond 2, Lower Hutt 0. ~ Hutt now broke away, and tsiair and'Lyon made a smart run up the field but the effort ended in a corner, and play immediately returned to Hutt's territory. Hutt missed a splendid opportunity when Carlson and Stobbs broke away and lack of support enabled the Diamond backs to frustrate their attempt. ■ Hutt did not seem to know what to do with the ball when they did get it; their forwards were unenterprising, and their backs, except for Blair, were useless on attack and unreliable on de-
fence. . . ' Diamond now scored twice in a few minutes, Tucker, , their inside right, completely baffling the Hutt goalie, and Dyer netting a fair way out. These were followed soon by a goal from Cross after a clever run by the Hutt forwards. Diamond 4, Hutt 1. Diamond had hard luck when the ball was travelling across the mouth of the goal, and one of their forwards tried to shoot in but failed.
In 'the second spell, Hutt rallied for a time, but were unable to accomplish anything, and Diamond were soon pressing again. Hutt's combination was decidedly better than in the first spell. Tucker, however, netted a shot that Moyes dropped. Diamond 5, Kutt 1. A vigorous spell of attacking by Hutt ended in A. McLellan's shot going over, but immediately afterwards Cross' netted a hard shot. Upchurch and Tucker beat the Hutt defence with a splendid run, and O'Connell shot in a difficult goal. Diamond 7, Hutt 2. Moyes distinguished himself by clearing a fast shot irom Geddes, but shortly afterwards an infringement by Hopper gave Hutt a penalty kick, with which A. McLellan made no mistake. A few minutes of spiritless play followed, but just before time was called Upchurch dashed through the Hutt defence to shoot a fast goal from near the goal-mouth; making the final score Diamond 8, Hutt 3. Mr. J. Graham was the referee.
