SIR ANDREW RUSSELL
"INVALUABLE LEADERSHIP"
Appreciation of the ..services of Major-General Sir Andrew Russell as Dominion president of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association, from which position he has retired, is expressed in a resolution, passed recently at a Dominion council meeting. The resolution, which was moved by the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C., and carried unanimously, amidst applause, is as follows: —
"That this meeting of delegates in open conference assembled and representative of the ex-servicemen of this Dominion place on record its deep debt of gratitude to Sir Andrew Russell for his many years of unselfish devotion to the cause of the men who served under him during the war, and those other returned soldiers residing in our Dominion. We desire to acknowledge that his invaluable and skilful leadership has not only been an inspiration to those who have been privileged to serve our association in minor capacities but has been' the guiding influence that has placed the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association on its higher plane of membership, has consolidated its place in the social structure of our community, and has most materially contributed to whatever achievements we - have been able to attain during his happy term of office as our Dominion president. We also acknowledge with the utmost sincerity the sacrifice that this has entailed on Lady Russell as well as on Sir Andrew, and with this expression of our admiration, of our appreciation, and of our pledged loyalty, we desire to couple the sincere hopes of all ex-ser-vicemen in this Dominion that Sir Andrew will have many more years of good health to continue his wonderful work in the service of others, in which we trust our association will share as it fortunately has in the past."
