PIONEER" CLUB
EXHIBITION OF ANTIQUES
The Arts and Crafts Circle of the Pioneer Club held an exhibition of antiques and curios recently. The collection was both comprehensive and intensely interesting. The exhibits represented some seventeen different countries and dated back in some cases to the sixteenth century.
There were beautiful tapestries, old English silver, very old pewter, Indian filigree silver, and china from world-famous potteries, including a vase of Sevres china belonging at one time to Napoleon Bonaparte.' Indian brass, and cloisonne both Japanese and Chinese were there, and jewellery of great value, including a brooch at one time worn by Mary Queen.of Scots.
i The Chinese exhibits attracted much attention—a workbox completely fitted with carved ivory fittings,- brought to New Zealand 80 years ago, a Mandarin coat, and many more.
The Maori exhibit and the innumerable other treasures gathered together made a collection of very great value. Mrs. Adams, acting president of the .club, opened the exhibition.
