ONE OF THE NORMANDIE'S HtGE MOTORS.—One of four 40,000 h.p. motors which give the neiv French liner Normandie a total horsepower rating of 160,000. For purposes of comparison it may be mentioned, states the Wellington branch of the General Electric Company of New York, which acted as consultant in the ivork of building the motors, that the present installed power at ' Arapuni is 80,000 Ji.p.? or enough for two motors only of the Normandie, while the maximum load of Wellington City is a little over half the power taken by only one of the great ship's motors.
