Harmer's have sold the stamp collection of Mr. Arthur Hind, the millionaire, to a' manufacturer named Pluch for £173,000, of which £45,000 was paid in America.
The Hind collection, formed by Arthur Hind, of'Utica, U.S.A., is one of the world's most famous stamp collections. He amassed it by extensive purchases and acquired most of the unique gems from the Ferrari collection when that, the most famous collection of all, was broken up and sold. The Hind collection contains several of the world's most celebrated stamps, of which only single specimens exist Chief among these .rarities is the British Guiana one cent magenta stamp. Mr. Hind once paid the sum of £11,000 for an envelope on which were a pair of the famous Post Office Mauritius stamps. This envelope was formerly in the Duveen collection. |
