LATE MR. D. G. A. COOPER

FUNERAL SERVICE

The funeral of the late Mr. D. G. A. Cooper 'took«place this morning. The service at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral was attended by a large gathering of citizens, representative of the Legislature, the Bench", the Bar, business firms, outdoor 'sports bodies, with which the late Mr. Cooper was associated, and members of families long resident in Wellington.

The service was conducted by the Bishop of Wellington (the Rt. Rev. Dr, Sprott), assisted by Canon Percival James. In the course of a short address Canon James said:—"This is no common loss. Our brother who has passed over to the other side had spent almost the whole of his long life in Wellington, and he was a familiar and beloved figure amongst us. He was by birth inheritor of the high traditions of the Public Service of this country. He joined that service fiftyseven years ago, and rose to positions of great responsibility as Stipendiary Magistz-ate and chairman of the War Pensions Board. He was a lover and patron of open-air; sports. In ' many hearts there' is a deep sense of personal loss. He was a man of many friends, whom he attracted by sheer goodness of character and warm kindli.ness of heart/

The chief mourners were Miss Cooper (sister), Messrs. H. R. Cooper (brother), A. R. Cooper, George Cooper, and Foster Pratt (nephews).'

The committal service at the crematorium, Karori Cemetery, was conducted by Canon. James. A vote of condolence with the rela-. tives of the late Mr. D, G. A. Cooper was passed at the annual meeting of the Karori Progresive Association last evening. The president (Mr. H. L. P. Dyett) said that up to some three or four years ago Mr. Cooper had been a resident in the district, and while a member was a very strong supporter of the association, particularly jn the early days.
