WELTERWEIGHT TITLE

MUDGWAY NEW CHAMPION

(By Telcsrapli—Press Association,) CHRISTCHURCH, June 26. Don Stirling, of Oamaru, professional welterweight boxing champion oi. New Zealand, lost his title tonight to N. Mudgway, of Waihi, in a 15-round bout, which went the full distance. The decision, although popular with the spectators, was surprising to some. Both boxers were very fit, fast, and clever. . After the first few rounds Stirling did most of the leading and made a fight all the way. He scored frequently with heavy rights over the heart and to the head. Mudgway was therefore mostly on the defensive, and showed excellent skill and tactics. However, he took much punishment, though he was never distressed.
