CLUB'S COMPLAINT
THE "POACHING" QUESTION
"No doubt both sides were.ieported. fairly and it is for the public' tc..draw their iown: conclusions," said MiW.; Meltzee at the meeting oil the iman-; agement committee of the Wellington; Football Association last night when; the Petone Football Club wrote .ask-; ing'that Mr. J. H. Janes, a member of: the committee, should apologise \ion the statements made by him alleging "poaching" by the Petone,Club, unless he could produce the name oi_ the four or five players said to have been interviewed by members .of the Petone. Club. "We consider that the state-; ments made at your last meeting by Mr. Janes and published in the papers, have had a very serious effect on the; standing of the Petone Club' and we hope that in fairness to the members and supporters of the Petone Club Mr.; Janes will make a statement through the W.F.A. as to whether,he can or: cannot produce the evidence." M When the letter was read Mr. Janes stated definitely that he did not say. players were interviewed, what he; had said was that the, names of play-! ers had been obtained. That information had been 'supplied to 'him by players and officials of, the Seatoun Club. "I do not think I owe an apology to Petone or anybody else," he said. "I said they obtained the names' of five players. What they obtained the names for you can draw your,:own inference."- ■•■• ■■■•■'■'■■ ,'. ■' .-"-- fThe committee took no action.
