FRENCH CLASSIC WINNER
Mesa, the third French filly to win the One Thousand -.Guineas at Newmarket in seven years, was bred at the stud of Messrs. Henri and Pierre (father and son) Corbiere at Nonant-le-Pin, in Normandy; ,;,'"' This beautifully appointed stud has turned out many notable winners in recent years. These include Barneveldt, winner of the Grand Prix in 1931; Chateau Bbuscaut, winner of- the French Derby and second in the Grand Prix in 1930; Belfonds, the French. Derby winner of 1925; Rebla, who carried off the French One Thousand Guineas in 1924; and Mackwiller, who Won the same race in 1926* Rodosto,. the only colt to win both the Two Thousand Guineas at Newmarket aiid : the French Two Thousand Guineas,;| was also bred at this "stud, as was'the; brilliant colt Assuerlis, who, due toj/thel fact that he was foaled in Ireland,could not compete in most ot the French classics. ■ ;'■-. Mesa is by the Irish St. Leger winner Kircubbin,, a son of the Cyllene horse Captivation. Mackwiller, deim of Mesa, is by Verwood (son of Grey Plume) from Marveldt, by Marcovil (son of Marco) from Veldt, by Pietermaritzburg. M. Pierre Wertheimer, who holds Mesa on lease from M. Corbiere, was in America when the filly won at Newmarket, but he was expected to be in England to see the Oaks, in which she finished third. The Australian, "Togo?
