ELVES-OF-THE-RING.

I knoio tlieres only one thing of importance for you tonight—the resiUts of ijie^Painting{Competition — so I shall not keep yqu iwaiting'for ' one ■ tick-of-the-clock. Tlie'best artists this time were "Briar Rose" (12), Lone~ some'? (14), "English" (14), "Maid "of the Mist" (12), and "Nancy Pretty" (11). Postman will blow five extra long blasts on his'tvhistle ... and parcels for lucky ones! There were more paintings than ever sent in for this competition (perhaps it ivas because "Daisy Dawn's" draiving almost asked to be coloured) but, sad to say, the work was not nearly as good as usual. "Briar Rose" and "Lonesome" were ■the) only ones whomounted their■paintings so, of course, they : headed the list by many marks,-'while "Maid of the Mist" came next because she had used some of the shades the sun reveals tvhen it shines through the: mist (Do you think she knows the secret of rainbow-making?). Last Saturday, as you knoiv, we took our gifts to the hospital. "There's an army here," said the Man-at-the-Door to the Sister-in-Blue. But we were, 1 think, tlie nicest sort of army with armfuls of pleasant surprises and no enemies, so we were allowed to advance. But I have asked "Lassie" to tell you of tfutlt elsewhere, for there isn't room for another word in my small corner. So good-bye for another week. : ./• " ■;--: - : .... FAIRIEL.
