TROTTER BEATS PACERS
Pacers are generally regarded as speedier than trotters, particularly over a short course, but the resurrection of a saddle race at- the Forbury Park Meeting this week, after a lapse of some years, provided a chance for a trotter to show superiority to pacers. This was Admiral Bingen, who completely outpointed his pacing opponents in the mile saddle event.
Admiral Bingen was well handled, but the element of luck was not entirely absent, for had Wild Dreams moved off correctly she might have made one to trouble him. Admiral Bingen had recently. been showing form. At the Oamaru Meeting last month the aged Nelson Bingen gelding gave a fine performance when, ridden by J. McLennan, he finished third to Directum and Rocks Ahead in the Electric Handicap, after registering 2min 13 3-ssec for a mile. The natural disinclination for followers of form to support an unhoppled trotter against pacers was undoubtedly the reason for the very acceptable dividend he returned his few supporters last Wednesday.
