AUCKLAND, This Day.

Among the decisions of the new Auckland City Council last night was the setting up of an employment committee. This was done on the motion ■of Mr! F. E; Lark, who is secretary of the Unemployed Workers" Association. The committee; consists; of. five councillors and two co-opted members, arid, its functions; are to investigate avenues for the: provision of ■Work, to submit •'. plans for the. reabsbrption of unemployed; to report on facilities for providing work for Unemployed adolescents,, and to make recommendations on matters concerning the betterment of conditions for the unemployed., , . . . Sir George Richardson said that unemployment was a national question which no local body could 'solve, he would do all in his power\:;to help the.mover of the motion. Only first aid had been attempted, and men were losing hope. There were some 7000 unemployed, in Auckland, and 21,000 people were directly affected. If all those people were to march down Queen Street they would take two hours to pass a given point.
