BAPTIST CONFERENCE
CENTRAL AUXILIARY
!.. The annual meeting .of the central auxiliary of the Baptist Union is being held today in the Brooklyn Baptist Church. At 1. o'clock this afternoon a luncheon was held in honour of visiting delegates, at which addresses of welcome were given by Wellington members. There are 50 delegates to the meeting, representing 22 churches in the Wellington, . Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay provinces. The president, the Eev. L. J. Boulton Smith; was in the chair this morning, when the annual reports of the treasurer, the Chinese mission, the finance committee, and the Home Mission committee were received and discussed.
Several new members were welcomed to the auxiliary's area.
The establishment of the Karori Baptist Church owing largely to the enthusiastic and energetic efforts of Mr. Ernest Nees was a source of gratification to all present, said the president, and the report stated that the members of the congregation held services in the newly-erected Masonic Lodge. The church had received much encouragement and support. The auxiliary decided to recommend to the Baptist Union that the new church should be admitted into membership.
' The balance-sheet, said the treasurer, was very satisfactory, in spite of heavy expenses. He made an appeal for further funds for the Chinese Mission, and mentioned that the Chinese community had contributed £40 to the maintenance of the mission.
A vote of thanks was carried with acclamation to the treasurer (Mr. H. Ivory), who had carried out his various duties excellently for fifteen years. He had, on taking office, found the finances in a very unsatisfactory condition, but now, thanks to his optimism and sound judgment they were in a far healthier state. Several difficult problems had been satisfactorily solved during the year. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, the Rev. L. J. Boulton Smith; vice-presi-dents, the Eev. W. S. Rollings, the Rev. J. C. Macky, Messrs. E. Nees, J. R. Carey, D. P. Power; honorary secretary, the Rev. N. R. Wood; honorary treasurer, Mr. H. Ivory.
