MOTOR TAXATION
(To the EditoK)
; Sir,—-On the motor vehicle registration form appears' a statement for the horsepower of the car to be licensed for the ensuing year. Why is ; ihis deemed necessary? One ■ .conclusion seems to be that the Government is going to tax on horsepower. Is this a move brought about to assist British manufacturers and at the same time give the Government a bigger revenue in order to remit some other form of taxation, e.g., sales tax, or unemployment tax, or is it to give large subsidies to county councils or relieve these bodies of the maintenance of county roads and so relieve the farmer and of course any city man or financial company or corporation of dues for local taxation? The motorist should make his voice heard in no uncertain manner before the elections are held and get a definite statement from the political parties.—l am, etc., ' [ MOTORIST.
