Rose Schroeff, aged 68, a widow, who pleaded guilty at Marylebone Police Court, London, to stealihg a handbag from a woman in an' Oxford .Street shop, was stated to be without a country. The police,stated,that for some, years the woman's late, husband reported to the Dutch authorities, but there was doubt about her nationality. The Magistrate said he understood that Mrs. Schroeff was in poor circumstances, and that no one could deport her because no one knew the country to which she belonged. He sentenced her to one day's imprisonment and told her that she must obey the laws of England. <
