LONDON, May 30.

The South African cricketers ' had played themselves into a strong position when stumps were drawn at the end of the second day's play in the match against Derbyshire at Ilkeston. The county was dismissed for 236 runs in its first innings, in reply to the tourists' score of 443, and the latter, batting again, put on 168 runs for the loss of three wickets. Top scorer for Derbyshire was Hodgkinson. who was playing in his first county match. He gave an excellent display. Despite their big lead the South Africans did not force Derbyshire to follow on, but proceeded to bat again. Siedle and Rowan were painfully slow in the opening partnership, the former taking 40 minutes to score 4 runs. Details:— SOUTH AFRICA. First innings 443 Second Innings.
