SEARCH FOR CHILD

WATER DIVINER'S AID

Water diviners were-asked to assist in the search for a four-year-old, child Nicole, who was missing'at Chaumont, in the East of France. She is the daughter- of-Major Marescot dv Thilleul, of the Chaumont garrison;

The child, was seen talking In-the garden of her home with a man, and they afterwards walked, away hand in hand. For four days police and local troops scoured the woods and the valleys. .

Considerable, alarm was aroused throughout the district, and crowds of holiday-makers joined in the search. There can scarcely be any likely hiding-place within a wide radius of the major's residence/ that1 has not been examined.

The services of bloodhounds were enlisted, and a message was sent to Geneva asking a well-known detective, M. Rochat, for the services of his police-dog, which has achieved fame in searches of this kind.

Among the divining specialists who have taken an active part is Father Rouvre, the French scientist. He led a party to the River Suize, and there is reason to believe that the child met her fate in the water. Dragging operations have been in progress.
