ADVERTISING CLUB

The annual: general meeting of the Wellington Publicity arid Advertising Club was held last night. Mr. H. F; Wood presided.

The balance-sheet, said Mr. Wood) disclosed av'ery healthy state of affairs, las a debit balance had been converted into a credit one. The membership had declined during the past year or so,' and' determined efforts should be made to build it up again.

'The need for publicity and advertising," said the report, "is more strikingly in< evidence at the present than iever before. With the more promising economic outlook there is a call for strenuous campaigning in order that local manufacture and consumption may be stimulated,/that primary products may find profitable markets, and that the attractions of New Zealand may be properly, featured at home and abroad." For this purpose a further development and intensification of the spirit of co-operation was necesasry. 'There is special need for this locally, tin order that the Capital City may fittingly celebrate its centenary in 1940," the report added. ."Towards this object publicity and advertising men can, by organisation,- give a definite lead in the preliminaries necessary in connection with this great historical occasion." ■

The following officers were elected: President, Mr. T. M. Donovan; vice-' presidents, Messrs. W. Appleton, J. Mothes, H. H. Sterling, J. M. A. Ilott, G. G. Stewart; H. F. Wood, J. Spence Nicol, J. N. Wallace,' A. Harre; honorary secretary, Mr. J. W. Fergie; honorary treasurer, Mr. H. E. Taylor; honorary auditor, Mr. C. R. Ashbridge; committee, Messrs. P. A. Lawlor, Whitham, L. J. Maull, T. J. Farrell, J. R. O'Shaughnessy.

During the evening Master Farrell gave a pianoforte solo, and Mrs. Amy Woodward and Mr. H. I*. Wood sang solos. Mrs. W. 'J. Mason also gave a solo. Miss Iris Mason was the accompanist.
