AN ARTISTIC SETTING

:' A charming party was given yesterday afternoon by. Madame Nihotte, when her artistic rooms were well filled with guests. Her new.pictures, which she brought back on her return with M. Nihotte from Holland, were much enjoyed by her guests, and her Slower scheme "was - particularly good,; a bowl of well-developed anemones, crimson, mauve, and cream, intriguing all, as they were so early in the season. Violets and long-stemmed-chry-santhemums added to the effect in the drawing-room.

The dining-room was particularly at-, tractive the . table . having a deeply embroidered white cloth over palest green silk. In the centre was a large cut crystal bowl arranged with pinktoned carnations and long fronds of maidenhair fern, and around it were dainty little glass baskets of a delicate tone of green with sprays of 'daphne and'autumn leaves. Much admired also were some, chased golden fruit stands, used for'cakes, with gold-tinted lace mats, the china used being of creamy white wi.th a gold edge, altogether a most harmonious scheme of decoration. . '

Madame Nihotte received wearing a silver-blue frock of mariette, plainly cut, and with a shoulder posy of pink I roses and autumn leaves. Signora Formichella was assisting Madame Nihotte in entertaining, and wore a frock of cafe au Jait ninon, with ruched trimming. Mrs. Feng Wang, who has recently arrived at the Chinese Consulate, was a special guest of honour, and was introduced to all present by the hostess. She wore a black hat and slim-fltting coat over one of her charming national frocks. Among those present were Lady Myers, Lady Statham, Lady Roberts, Mesdames G. A. Bucklin, Orebaugh, W. Hoffman, Symon, W. H. Cunningham, G. Clinkard, F. Bradley, C. Tringham, Byron Mills, Horace Miller, Spidey, E. D. Good, J. S. Elliott, C. G. W.hite, Gordon Forbes, Ilott, L. Sinclair Thompson, Vaughan-Morgan, M. Luke, H. Nathan, M. Litchfield, Roche Kelly, Madame Merlin, Misses J. Elliott, Pomare, and Vaughan-Morgan.
