FIRST. MEETING OF BOARD
The first meeting of the newly-con-stituted Board of Native Affairs, established.by the legislation of last session, was held in Parliament Buildings yesterday, the Acting Minister of Native Affairs (the Hon: R. Masters) presiding.
Mr. Masters welcomed Mr. J. N. Massey, M;P.,-the hew appointee-to the board, and expressed the opinion that 'Mr; -Masse'y's services. to^ the board should be of value, in view of his experience in -land-matters vand in matters affecting the Maoris.
The board consists of the -Native Minister (chairman), the Under-Secre-tary of the Native Department, the Financial Adviser to the Government; i the Under-Secretary for_ Lands, the 'Valuer-General, the Director-General of [Agriculture;; and--three other persons to be appointed .by the GovernorGeiierafih Coilhcil. Two (bf'the latter have .'already' Veen', appointed. They are Mr.'Masseyand.Mr.' J. Si Jessep. The.third member, Mr; Masters stated today; would not be- appointed till after the ..return from1' London of the Prime Minister. :"- "" ' ■"" ■ ■ ' .
