OBITUARY
MR. A. ST., C. HICKSON
Mr. Andrew. St. George Hickson, who died on May 17, at the age of 27, was prominent in sports and scholastic affairs in Wellington. He was born on October .2, 1908, and- received his education at the Hokitika District High School, the Christchurch Boys' High. School, the Dannevirke High School, and Victoria University College. He matriculated in 1923, and having secured the higher-leaving certificate in 1924, joined the staff of the Union Shipping Company in January, 1925. He transferred to the Public •Trust Office in June of that year, and took his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1929. He joined the Texas Oil Company in 1933, arid was with that company until the time of his death.
In the sporting field, Mr. Hickson's activities covered a wide field. He was. a member of the Seatoun Tennis Club for ten years, and acted as secretary and on the committee • at different times. He played Rugby football at the university, and later joined the Seatoun Club. He also took a part in the activities of the Star Boating Club and the Worser Bay Swimming Club, and was a sergeant in the Fifteenth Battery of Artillery. . '
Mr. Hickson was described by, "a friend as a promising citizen whose death was a loss to the country.-While at school he was always at the top of his form and never had to. make: a second attempt at an examination. He carried the same keenness and ability into his civil and sporting life, and was always popular with those who 1 knew "him. ■ ■ • ■
