graph—Copyright. (Received May 31, 2 p.m.)

NEW YORK, May 30. At Indianapolis Kelly Petillo, the Los Angeles driver, won the Memorial Day 500-mile Automobile Race in 4hr 36min 47sec. He averaged 102 miles an hour for the first 240 miles and broke the record for 450 miles, which he covered in 4hr 7min 15sec, averaging 109 miles an hour for the second 210 miles. Rain then forced him to slow down the pace. • Thirty-three drivers started. Clay Weatherly, of Cincinnati, was killed and his mechanic had his back broken early in the race, the car crashing through the retaining wall.

There were 155,000 spectators at the event. ,•'••-
