FINE PARTNERSHIP

VILJOEN AND CAMERON

262 RUNS IN 155 MINUTES

SOUTH AFRICA V. DERBY

United I'reas Association—By Klectric Telo-

graph—Copyrictit. (Received May 30, noon.)

LONDON, May 29.

Though the South African cricketers started badly against Derbyshire at Ilkeston, they made a splendid recovery and batted all day for a score of 443. Both the opening batsmen, Siedle and Rowan, were run out, and Wade was caught off Mitchell just after he had reached" double figures. ' Nourse and Viljoen prevented a "rot" setting, in, and Cameron subsequently joined Viljoen in what proved to be the most prolific partnership of, the tour. I They transformed a recovery into a temperate but triumphant, onslaught, scoring 262 runs in 155 minutes. Both went well past the century mark, Viljoen scoring 152 and Cameron 132. j T. B. Mitchell, the county's spin bowler, captured five South African wickets. Details:— I SOUTH AFRICA. First Innings. Siedle, run outj 5 Rowan, run out 8 Wade, c Elliott, b Mitchell 10 Viljoen, b A. In 1933 they finished sixth, and last year they were headed by, only Lancashire and Sussex. The county had an exceptionally strong attack, which included Mitchell (who took 138 wickets during the season at an average of 17.39), Copson, the, two Popes, Townsend, and Worthington.
