CHANGEABLE WEATHER
WITH GENERAL RAIN
Special forecast for Wellington:— North-westerly gale. Weather changeable and for the most part cloudy with intermittent rain. ii;
Tho general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for moderate to strong northerly winds which will reach gale force in places to the south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint. Winds, however, will be backing to the west, and later in places to the south-west. The weather will be unsettled and squally with rain at times in most districts, and with heavy falls in parts of the western and southern districts of the South. Island. Temperatures will be somewhat cooler. An intense depression now covers the Dominion, its centre this morning being located to the west of Foveaux Strait. Thick and misty weather with general rain has been experienced and many places have had heavy falls. Arthur's Pass has produced, the highest total, 560 points, Motueka with 550 points coming a close second. Nelson has had 196 points of rain, and many other places have had falls of about an inch or 100 points. Temperatures have been mild, and moderate to strong north-easterly to north-westerly winds have prevailed, reaching gale force in placec, Auckland yesterday had boisterous and wet weather with, a high northeasterly wind. Since last night, however, this has moderated and conditions were much improved this morning. ' ■ Wellington had mild, dull, misty, and practically calm weather until about 4.15 p.m. when a northerly breeze sprang up. This freshened during the night, the rain which accompanied it yesterday afternoon and last night amounting to' 40 points at Kelburn and to 38 in Lower Hutt. Curiously enough, yesterday's maximum temperature, one of 61.1 degrees, was recorded at 10.40 p.m. Christchurch had a dull and wet day with a fresh north-easterly wind, 15 points of rain being recorded. Conditions, however, improved in the evening, and the weather this morning was fine with an easterly breeze. Dunedin's weather was also dull with rain at times, the total fall being one of 11 points. A north-easterly wind gradually increased in force and became boisterous during the night. The weather at 9 a.m. today was cloudy with a strong wind from the north-east. -
