AFTER LENGTHY ABSENCE
Among the acceptors for the Waitohu Hack Handicap at the Otaki Meeting on Saturday is Merry Euler, a five-year-old gelding who resumed racing at Wanganui recently after having been off the scane since a few starts as an early two-year-old. He revealed speed while he lasted at Wanganui, and that was till the straight, and as he was very promising as a juvenile he may be showing some better form before long. . . Merry Ruler had the distinction of winning the Wangahui Debutant Stakes in 1931 at his first appearance, when he Was a colt, but he subsequently failed in five other starts. He is a son of Chief Ruler and the imported Blink—Magheen mare Merry Twinkle, whose two progeny to be raced (Merry Ruler and Bay Duke) have each been winners, and at the 1931 Trentham sales :he cost his owner, Mr. F. Bristol, of Wanganui, 250gs. Apparently he proved difficult to train, but he has been back in work for some time now under M. Jenriings's care at •Wanganui and he, is liable to. have benefited considerably with his recent race at the River City,"
