SOUTHLAND BUILDING SOCIETY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)' : INVERCARGILL, May 29. At the annual meeting of the Southland Building Society tonight, the president, Mr. A. S. Froggatt, said that both borrowing and investing shareholders were credited with profits at the rate of 5% per cent. Profits credited totalled £40,350, plus £1893 paid out on matured shares during the year. The directors had twice lowered the lending rate, first in November, 1934, to 5 per cent., and-recently to 43 Jter cent. i The amount deposited with the society was £946,377, an increase of £107,704 over last year's figures, and an increase of £208,909 over the previous, year. The amount.lent during the year was £359,817, which constituted a record for any one year. The total amount how on mortgage was £1,823,102, art increase of £203,850 over last year's total. Mr; Froggatt" was re-elected president and the three retiring directors were xe-elected.
