CABLE CAR ACCIDENT
WOMAN INJURED
Knocked down by the Kelburn cable car shortly before 10.30- o'clock last night, Miss R. Lyon, who lives at 136 Oriental Parade, suffered a compound fracture of the right leg. and minor injuries to her face, besides shock. The Free Ambulance took her to a private hospital and her condition this morning was reported to be' satisfactory. The accident took place at the Talavera Terrace stop, where both ■ cable cars meet. Miss Lyon apparently was struck by the ascending car while crossing the line to join the down car. She was dragged under the car and it was necessary to jack it up to extricate her. This took some time, but willing assistance was lent by the passengers on both trams and nearby residents. Miss Lyon remained conscious throughout. It was only the prompt action of the gripman, Mr. S Evans, in bringing the car to a stop that prevented the accident from being more serious.
