•. AVAXGANUI, Hay 25. Jlie touring. Indian hockey teum, ilisplaying tfouderi'iil iiiiderstiinUing of positioiml' play; defeated Wangunui today by 18 goals to nil. . The visitors- played brilliant hockey before an attendance of about 3uoo. The weather conditions were ideal, and although the side lielde<l by the tourists was by no means their strongest it I gave an exhibition ot fast-and spectacular hockey in which' wizardry of stiekwork was used to exploit" perfect understanding of positional 'play. ; Whenever i the ball was played there was always a man ready to accept it.' Particularly brilliant- feats of back-hitting, jwere ae'complißhed,: and they looked so easy that' the ,home team was made to look almost ridiculous. As a matter o£. fact, the Wanganui sido played above expectations, particularly' in j the first half, and.■ offered •■■■ the visitors the sternest opposition so far encountered on the Mew Zealahd tour. --: . t . Connett, the home goal-keeperV played brilliantly :. and ; say.cd at least a' dozen goals in the first spell, holding the.score at half-time to 4 to. nil. in favour of the Jndjans.-- In the second session the corabination between Bbyan Chand,' -Wells, Fernandez,: and Kup Singh, asserted ittielf -to.'*•.more--marked degiee. ;Dhyau Chand in particular showing up in brilliant efforts which gave the: home: defence no chance. • Dhyan Chand: scored ten goals, Wells four, Hup Singh; three, and Davidson one. AVanganUi attacked on a number of occasions,- and'it-was within the side's power to score, but lack of finish within the circle was markedly evident.
